INT.
Also: interior · INT./EXT. · I/E
INT. is short for interior. It starts a scene heading when the scene happens indoors, like "INT. KITCHEN - NIGHT." Use it any time the camera is inside a building, a car, or any enclosed space.
Every scene heading opens with INT. or EXT. so the reader, and later the crew, knows at once whether the scene is inside or outside. That one word decides a lot on a shoot: lighting, sound, and whether the weather matters.
When a scene moves between inside and outside in one continuous stretch, like a conversation in a moving car or a walk through a front door, write INT./EXT. (some writers write I/E).
INT. SAM'S APARTMENT - NIGHT Sam drops her keys in the bowl and kicks off her shoes.
